Help...

Its a long story, but in a trade, I have ended up with two huge cones of lace weight yarn. The question is - this yarn in 100% arcylic - I have never knit with acrylic before, especially not lace. Does anyone have any suggestions, helpful hints, will it knit just the same as my wool or alpaca? Will it wear as well? The colors are beautiful and the yarn I traded for it I will never use, so it was worth the gamble... Anyone, suggestions, help??

Oh, great colors. Hmmmm...acrylic isn't so bad. I use acrylic yarn all the time. I am unsure about lace-weight projects. Maybe a shawl of some kind would look nice in it? Or a lace-type cardigan?

I agree with Lana. I have knit shawls out of sport weight acrylic and they turned out just fine. Go for it.

In my experience, acrylic is really tough and scratchy to knit with but it will get softer after washing and blocking. It may pill with frequent use and washes, so be ready to shave! The only reason I don't use it much is it tends to be squeaky on the needles. Your experience may also vary depending on how old the yarn is. The newer acrylics are definitely better than the old 60's and 70's stuff my grandma keeps sending me from her dead friends.
