Yarn binge-ette while on vacation.

I wasn't able to resist the call of the fiber while I was in Conn. this week on vacation from my beloved Jersey. I visited The Knitting Niche in Greenwich, and Mystic River Yarns in Mystic. They were both a bit smaller than my fav Jersey store, Stix-n-Stitches, but the people were very nice in both stores. That's a big thing with me. I don't look that "unusual" acording to societies standards, but I have gone into some stores in Jersey with mom and sis, Sis in her Christopher Lee t-shirt and I in my massive jeans and band shirt, and we've gotten a heavy duty cold shoulder.

At Mystic River I asked about regional yarn producers and picked up some Ellyn Cooper's Yarn Sonnets. The colorways were really beautiful and reminded me of Schaefer (but I still love Schaefer and Caron soft best:)
Just wanted to provide the links incase anyone is in that area and unaware of the stores. If anyone has a store they love in the Jersey/NYC area, let me know.

I did see some cute animals while on vacation. If anyone is interested in seeing these cutie pies here's the link. I'm an animal lover, what can I say:)

intro-y post.

greetings to my fellow punk rock knitters! it's good to find you all out there. ms. pixie riot, reporting with a few things that i thought would be appropriate to this blog. :-) they're older finished objects, but ones that really just FIT here.

first up is tychus from knitty, with blanket stitch and mismatched embroidery additions:

second is the famous kittyville hat, again done in my favourite colour combination. the button, in case you're wondering, says "you laugh because i'm different. i laugh because you're ugly."

and my painfully easy five-minute punks just wanna have fun scarf. entirely random and badly knit on large needles - but on purpose, of course. :-P

lots more in my blog, including the very last of my first punk rock handpainted yarns, named (of course...?) after songs by the clash. i believe joe and mick would approve.

Knucks!

I finally got around to knitting up some Knucks for a friend of mine. The embroidery was a lot harder than to do than I thought it would be, but I think they turned out a-okay.

These were done in Rowan Felted Tweed - has anyone else used this yarn? I had some issues with it tearing on me. I didn't know if maybe I was just hard on it or if that was a common complaint.

More info on the bloggy.

A Spoonful of Fiber

I, like just about everyone else in blogland, am sick. My family is sick.Punk Rock Princess Heather was home 3 days last week, man I thought I'd lose my mind. A little fiber to cheer us up? I don't know about you, but it always makes me feel better. This came in the mail for me today from my blogging buddy Ann-marie, she has an etsy shop too. There's some yarn there similar to the Suzanne that I might snatch up if nobody jumps on it. I'm thinking a Newsboy cap and some wristwarmers (or legwarmers?), probably striped with some solid Cascade 220. Hmm....

Next Up On The Knit List

I think I am sweatered out, at the moment. I just finished a large sweater project and need a break.

Next up on my knit list is the Irish Hiking Scarf in the pictured yarn that I purchased today. The yarn is Patons SWS. It's gorgeous yarn and it has a really nice feel to it. It's 70% wool and 30% soy. The color I chose was # 70013, Natural Earth. I was going to order it online, but I found it $2.00 cheaper at my local Michael's. Woo Hoo! I think 4 skeins will be enough to make the scarf.

Happy Weekend and Happy Knitting!

Hooray for Yarn!

Suzanne2Okay, I'm so in love with this yarn that I had to share. It's just so beautiful to me. Unfortunately, the colorway is discontinued. I can't make up my mind on what to do with it. Should I knit Monkey from Knitty? Or this pattern? Or maybe I should just sleep with it under my pillow....

Any Ideas?

Hey guys, I got a skein of Crystal Palace Taos in my Guest gift package from my Knitty Gritty taping, and I don't know what to do with it.

It's so freaking gorgeous, I don't want to do the wrong thing with it, ya know? I've thought of maybe wristwarmers or a hat, but maybe I can do better. Any ideas?

Thanks!
