intro-y post.

greetings to my fellow punk rock knitters! it's good to find you all out there. ms. pixie riot, reporting with a few things that i thought would be appropriate to this blog. :-) they're older finished objects, but ones that really just FIT here.

first up is tychus from knitty, with blanket stitch and mismatched embroidery additions:

second is the famous kittyville hat, again done in my favourite colour combination. the button, in case you're wondering, says "you laugh because i'm different. i laugh because you're ugly."

and my painfully easy five-minute punks just wanna have fun scarf. entirely random and badly knit on large needles - but on purpose, of course. :-P

lots more in my blog, including the very last of my first punk rock handpainted yarns, named (of course...?) after songs by the clash. i believe joe and mick would approve.

IHS Progress

Remember my entry a few days ago about knitting the IHS with Patons SWS yarn? (SWS = Soy Wool Stripes)

Here is the progress I have made on the Irish Hiking Scarf. I am loving the yarn, so far. It's so pretty. The colorway is "Natural Earth."

The IHS is one of my favorite scarves to knit. This is my second round on the pattern.

I have finished my first skein of SWS on the scarf. I measured it. One skein of SWS yarn, 110 yards, makes 18" worth of the IHS scarf. I have 4 skeins of the yarn...it should be plenty long enough, approximately 72 inches. I just wanted to share that in case anyone else decides to use Patons SWS for the IHS scarf.

Another thing, I did not connect the new skein of yarn in the exact color pattern. The striping follows a sequence, I noticed. If you are a picky person that like things in order...you will have to find the sequence order and connect from there. Me? I don't care. I am all about wacky things in my knitting. You can see where I connected the wrong color at the top. You see the reddish segment? It should be followed by a segment of green, as below it. Instead...the continuation is blue. Meh, I don't care. I just thought I would warn anyone...who uses the SWS. The skeins are a bit random in what colors they begin. It's never the same color. That's all.

my first lace scarf of the year....

I finished my possum scarf this morning!! Thank you to everyone who helped me try to figure out the yardage - I am still not sure what the yardage is, just that it was alot! This scarf is 6+ inches wide, knit on a size 5, 68 inches long and I ended up with about 40 yards left over! I am going to block it tonight and try for some better photos tomorrow! There is more information and a couple better pictures of the lace pattern on my blog! And a big thanks to Lana for posting this pattern (zigzag lace pattern) in one of the free pattern postings that she does!!

Well, here it is! I finally finished the scarf and hot pads I have been working on. Next, I will be making a kitchen towel with the skull and crossbones below it.
Enjoy,

Handsome Devil Hat and Scarf Set

Here’s my present for my dad. I pretty much made up the patterns for the hat and the scarf, but I’d made the "Hot Head" hat from Stitch ‘N Bitch before, and so I sort-of based the hat on that. I knit the hat on 11.5 circular needles with Lamb’s Pride Bulky in onyx and a red (which is a true red, not pinkish, as in the photo) from my stash (confession: I was worried that I’d run out of the onyx, so I added the stripes). I knit the scarf on size 10.5 needles, all in the onyx. Hope he likes it!

FINALLY! I was able to upload my image. I have been having trouble with this, but I created a FLICKR account and uploaded it there, and then was able to do it here.

Anyway, I am about half way done with this scarf. I also made, but have no pics of, a set of pot holders like this. I am making a kitchen towel to go with it, that has crossbones below it.

Enjoy!

McDreamy Hat and Scarf Set and Cell-Phone Cozies

Greetings, Punk Rock Knitters! I’m Sassy Sundry, a friend of Carissa Marie’s. She introduced me to this blog, and I think it’s great. You are all much more talented than I am, but that means that I get to learn from you. Plus, you might introduce me to some kickass music.

Here are a couple of things I’ve been working on.

McDreamy Hat and Scarf Set

This hat and scarf I made for my mother for Christmas in a post-marathon conference and family Thanksgiving haze. The only things I had the strength to do were watch endless episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and knit. The hat is the Sparkle Hat from Stitch ‘N Bitch, minus the sparkles. It’s knit on size 11 circular needles and size 10.5 double-pointed needles (the pattern called for 10, but I seemed to have misplaced those, and these worked fine). The scarf is just a basic stockinette scarf, made on size 13 needles. Both are made with Lamb’s Pride Bulky RPM Pink. Mom really likes pink.

Cell-Phone Cozies

When I got my new cell phone, I was so enamored that I was inspired to make cozies for it. I tried two different styles. The first I knit horizontal and sewed up the bottom and a side. The second I knit lengthwise and sewed up the sides. Both are made on size 8 needles and with Lamb’s Pride Bulky yarn from my stash (Limeade and some wine color, respectively). I currently use the lime-colored cozy for my cellphone and the wine-colored one for my iPod (it fits the little case that it came in and the headphones perfectly).

I hope you like them, and I'm looking forward to reading more of your posts.

Yay I got it Working

It took me long enough to get posting on the new beta blogger. It is still not letting me bring my blog over. Well I don't know.

This is the new clown carf that my Clown Troop is working on. It is going to be longer and a lot more funny in a month.

It is made from Red Heart Mexicana. We cast on thirty stitched and it will go to three ten stich strips over so often for the braid. I will post pictures at interesting points.

The skull illusion scarf

OK, I had to have one of these. I live an a small, ultra conservative town in Virginia and I just needed a skull scarf. I love the magic of it that you can't see the skulls at all times. I have three children and run around in circles where I see other mothers, and when they saw the skulls, they said, "Oh, did you mean to do that?" It is a very entertaining piece.

First Scarf

This is my WIP scarf I'm knitting for my sister:
It's on sz. 15 needles, in paton's Divine. It's in moss stitch and drop stitch. I dig this whole drop stitch thing because it makes the scarf longer faster. I don't have the patience to do garter or knit stitch every row.

It occured to me today that it's probably a bit odd that since learning to knit, I've made a sweater (even though it was small), coin purse, big purse, several hats, mittens, and 1.6 socks and I'm just now getting around to making a scarf. Aren't you supposed to learn how to knit with scarves?
I feel a smidge better because I don't think the Yarn Harlot's first project was a scarf either. Anyone else? What was your first knitting project?
