Hello All! I'm Plain Jane Parker and I'm new to the blog. I thought I would share my latest creation just in case anyone found it pointless to try to find a pattern for this online.

Well, the three oldest of our girls are getting Ipod shuffles for christmas this year. Since the little protective sleeves for them are so expensive I decided to knit them cozies instead. First I looked on the net for a pattern, but no one had a pattern for ipod cozies for the shuffle, only the larger and more expensive ones. So I created one myself. It can be knit in the round on 4 size 2 US dpns or back and forth on size 2 straights. I used red heart super saver yarns in varigated colors, but any worsted weight will do.

On Straights
Body
Cast on 24 sts. work k2, p2 rib for 3.5-4 inches..depending on your preference.
Bind off

fold in half and sew side seams.

Next...cast on two stitches work in st st until 2 inches.

Bind off.

Sew to top of cozy as loop for button.

Handle

Cast on 2 stitches. Work in st st until 5 inches, more if preferred.

Bind off.

Sew onto cozy....Add Button of your choice and weave in ends...enjoy!

To make in the round cast on 48 stitches instead of 24. Work in k2, p2 rib until 2 inches....Cast off.

Sew bottom seam.

Make up the rest of the way the same as for the straight needles.

I am still wading through the yarn to make stock for Country Treasures in Crookwell. This week so far I have finished a 3 month Cardigan and beanie set and a new born crochet Jacket. Not to bad when I work 40 hours a week in a regular job.

I have been very Busy working for Country Treasures making garments from Premmie to size 4 and here is just a small selection of what is to be made. A shipment of 150 balls of wool in 2 different plys was sent to me and in just 2 weeks I have knitted through 12 balls and made all of these.

This is a 8ply ( worsted) cardigan and hat in size 2 before it got its buttons.

A premmie cardigan in baby yarn and below a newborn size.

Finally a Size 1 jumper that I just finished today.

Knitting my long hat in a Militaristic Clown Uniform

I was out and about in Homestead Pa working on my latest clown hat.

It is made from Red Heart and in this picture it is tuck up inside itself. The item looks like a fairly average clown hat. It pulls out to be around fifteen feet long. This is funny when on stage with a lot of clowns.

My Southwestern knitting

I have been homesick for the Southwest ( I moved to the East coast several years ago) so I refinished some furniture and recovered a pillow making my home look a bit more Southwestern. I did modular knitting for the pillow using scrap yarn. A fun way to use up some of your leftovers...

Lets go back in time to 1942

Take a step back to 1942 when you would be on rations in Australia but needing to knit your bit for the guys on the Kokoda Track or thru the many other conflicts about. I have found one of those books that had the saving patterns and tips of the day and took to knitting the spiral socks from it so far and love the way it goes and the feel to the whole idea of re creating these patterns that were such a staple.

I am alive and have been rather busy with exhibitons and conventons but time to return to normal and being more active again.

My Buccaneers Booty Socks have been done for a while now, I just did not find the time to post them here yet.

I dyed the red myself and the black are overdyed leftovers - not really solid black now, but I like it.

What I did not like about those socks was the fair isle part, it is nothing I enjoy. I really like the results, but the process is making me to go insane.

And this adorable little monster has been made for my son as part of a Crochet-A-Long on Ravelry. We had a basic receipe for those little guys and I decided to add fun fur as crazy hair and mismatched buttons for the eyes.

Otherwise, I kept it simple because it is supposed to be a toy for a 3 year old - I don't want to risk any choking or other injuries.

Finally the bucaneers are done!

However, I finished my bucaneer booty socks over the weekend! I used the last of my naturespun from my mittens. It worked out to almost the exact right amount!! I made them a little big, hoping that they will felt a little when I wear them, like a fair isle mitten.

We were going for purple but got magenta and pink. This is how I did it:

Made a vinegar / water mixture and saturated the white spot on the back of his neck with it. Put a square of plastic wrap over it and put his collar back on to hold it in place. Let sit for about 30 minutes
Using purple wilton’s cake dye (you know, the kind that’s like a paste that comes in a jar?) and a paint brush, I painted it on his spot. Re-covered in plastic wrap as above.
Held a blowdryer on low over the plastic-wrapped spot for about 5 minutes (moving it around and testing with my hand to make sure it wasn’t burning him). Let sit for 20 minutes. Repeat once more.
Bath time! I filled the tub with about 1-2 inches of water and poured 1 cup vinegar over the spot. Wet and washed with dog shampoo in all places BUT the spot. Rinsed well.

Results
Due to not being able to marinate Jack in a crock pot like real yarn, his fur didn’t have enough time/warmth to suck up all of the purple dye, leaving us with a magenta spot instead. Rinsing the spot with vinegar worked to both help set the dye on the spot and added water to the tub Jack was standing in…helping the rinsed-off dye adhere to the white on his chest and paws.

Jack is quite the happy punk rock pooch.

Like this blog a lot and thought it could be fun to see if I can contribute now and then. I love knitting and I love music of all kinds, not only rock and punk, but when I was a teenager I was a punkrocker and I promise you.. we did NOT have flowers in our hair *lol*

So, about the music then.. I was 13 in 1977 when it struck me... I couldn't get enough... The Clash, Kinks, Pistols, Talking Heads, Nina Hagen and a lot more. I still love them and thank the Universe for You Tube! What is life without rock?

Well, thats all about me for now. Next time I'll try to talk about knitting:)

If you could have your dream...

ski hat, what would it be? There are a group of 12-14 of us who every sunday meet up at Crystal Mountain to ski/snowboard together. Ages 10-50??something. All are young at heart, a bit wild child....and love the unique! (my husband has the most tacky "monkey camo" coat, you can't miss him on the mountain.If you look closely you will see little smiley faces throughout the coat design as well) I have decided that we are all going to have unique hats to go along with the group. there are some wild and crazy hats out there..so....if you could have your fun, unique winter ski hat what would it be? Any pattern suggestions? Thanks...guess what i will be knitting this summer, lol.

Lucy Dolittle Scarf

This is a ruffled scarf that I made up using Dark Horse Fantasy. It has a nice increase that has only four rows of increases.

It's easy to make and comes out with a neat effect.

The nice thing about this scarf is that it has four rows of yarn at it's heart. This makes it strong enough to drag someone across the floor. Test number one for a clown scarf.

Finally started

I finally found the time to start my Buccaneer's Booty Socks, since I took the pic I finished sock #1. As I don't like heel flaps, I knit a short row heel without the 2 rounds in between so I could add a contrasting heel. The yarn is handdyed by me, the black one are overdyed leftovers.

Did anyone else start to knit the socks, or am I the only one?

Dracula Socks

My newest creation: Dracula Socks! Yes, they are in boring stockinette, but there is a reason for this - this amazing yarn! It looks so cool that there was no point in putting a pattern over it. It is Cheeky Monkey Sock Yarn from H.L. Miller at Etsy in the colorway "Bela Lugoisi's Dead." Soft smooshy yarn and and a gothy colorway. I'm in love...and yes, those are supposed to look like blood splatters.

Hey everyone, I'm Lawren, your newest newbie (sorry I kind of stole that from the other newbie a few blogs down).. I study skulls by day (seriously... I'm writing my dissertation on climatic adaptations of the human skull) and knit and make earrings by night. I promise to post a pic of my newest knitting endeavor (some rugby inspired gauntlets) as soon as I stop being so lazy (can you be lazy and a grad student? probably not.). But for now... my favorite punk rock husband and wife are pregnant and I was wondering if anyone knew of any SUPER cute (but rockin') baby stuff I should think to make for them. I breifly looked online and the coolest thing I found was baby cowboy boots. Skulls are preferable (always)!

You know what really annoys Philadelphians? Journalists who get neighborhood names wrong. Write that the corner of 23rd and Analretentive is in Whogivesaf***, and you’ll get 100 letters and phone calls sneeringly pointing out that Analretentive stops just south of Getaf***inglife Avenue, which means the corner you’re talking about is actually in Stupidyokelwithnothingbettertodo, “you f***ing idiot” (no matter how politely they start the phone call, geographical pedants can never resist swearing right at the end.)

But giving these local-geography fascists a good run for their money in the hysterical overreaction stakes are Philadelphia’s legions of extremely sensitive and appallingly badly dressed knit-Nazis. Boy do they get pissed if you write rude things about them.

I should stress here that knit-Nazis are in no way like real Nazis (apart from being really touchy and big fans of the films of Leni Riefenstahl). I use the term because it’s an astute parody of the way the crafts most associated with brain-dead, soul-destroying pre-feminist housewifery—knitting, beading, stitching and crocheting—have been re-packaged and successfully sold to smugster sheep as radical, alternative and edgy.

I have two books on my desk right now, both pushing the strange idea that twiddling about with bits of wool is totally punk rock. And they’re just the tip of a huge knitted iceberg. There are entire sections containing metric sh**-tons of these knit-Nazi manuals in every book barn in America.

First up there’s Alter Nation. There’s a rad-lookin’, crazy blue-haired rebel chick on the cover alongside a boast that it contains “25+ DIY fashion projects.” Be still my punky heart.

Then there’s Anticraft, subtitled “Knitting, beading and stitching for the slightly sinister.” One can only assume they’re using “slightly” here to mean “not at all.” And that “anti” is a misspelling of “auntie.”

Seriously, if you called housework antihousework, would that make it cool? If you anticleaned the kitchen after antichanging the kitty litter before antipicking your screaming brats up from school and antidropping them off at soccer practice before rushing home and nearly anti-overdosing on antidepressants so you can face clearing up the vomit your sh**-faced alcoholic of an antihusband has puked all over the bathroom (while still finding time to knit an amusingly decadent antitoilet-roll cover) does that mean your lifestyle is somehow edgier and more interesting than that of your poor burnt-out-at-40, dead-by-50 great grandmother?

Put it this way, young goths: Vlad the Impaler didn’t crotchet his own ear-flapped bobble hats. And neither should you. If you need a hobby, take up spitting.

We have the CHOICE to craft, and incorporating a DIY aesthetic into things is a good thing.

Get Ready for a Punk Rock Along!

So the votes are in and Anne Kuo Lukito's Buccaner's Booty Socks came in first place with the Skull Socks of Fury coming in only 1 vote behind in second place. Since the votes were so close, I'm going to declare this a double KAL....knit both or chose the one you like the most.

KAL starts on February 1st and will run through the month of February. We'll start taking nominations for KAL #2 in March. So sharpen your needles and find some yarn and get ready for some sock knitting fun!

PS - As always, participation in the KAL is optional. KAL isn't taking over the blog...it's just a fun side thing we're doing. :-)

Crochet in Spanish???

I haven't done anything rockin lately...just a lot of baby clothes... I'm planning one baby sweater that I think I'll call Evil Baby. Anyway, now to my actual reason for the post. Does anyone know of any knitting or especially crochet blogs written in spanish? I run a crochet club at the school where I teach and one of the student's mothers loves to crochet and try new patterns, but is far more comfortable with spanish than english. I can't seem to find one...I think I'll try looking on ravelry tomorrow for perhaps a spanish group, but I was curious if you all knew of any.

How about some more nomination choices?

The Anticraft Book rocks, but I know a lot of people won't want to buy the book for the knit along. Maybe the skull armwarmers? I wouldn't mind making the Space Invaders hat someone posted on here awhile ago.

Hello from the newbie

Hey everyone, I'm Angela from Oregon. Admin Carissa steered me to this excellent group (Heidi-ho Carissa!) I'm a psychologist by day and skull obsessed by night.

My latest FO is a felted bag from She-Knits called the Melly Bag.

The pattern was originally done in browns and beiges, but both brown and beige go against everything I believe in. Much better in the black and red I think.

As far as the KAL nominations, I think I'm all for the Biker Boy sweater. Then again, I was with Carissa at the Debbie Stoller book signing, so seeing it in person has made me way too excited to do it (which may not be a good thing since I've never knit a sweater before). Someone talk me out of it ;)

Monster hats

Since there was a few posts regarding the monster hats I thought I'd share the pattern. Its a very rough pattern as I just threw it together but its easy and fun. You could actually make it a couple other ways if you wanted to but thats besides the point. The yarn that blue hat was made of is Yarn Bee- Frosting (104 yards/ 114 meters)it was $1 a skein at Hobby Lobby on sale. The magenta and light mauve were Jaeger Fur. Which was super expensive even on sale for the amount you get (it was 20m or 22 yards per skein for 4.50 a ball on sale originally 10.50). I didn't have much selection though being on vacation and wanted to get these out of the way so I could mail them. The blue yarn was much more affordable and I actually made two hats out of one skein (the monster hat and a rasta hat for my friend Bethany). You can use what ever you might desire though.

I remember when I first found this group, there was a huge Knucks phase going on.
I was actually not a huge fan of the pattern at the time, but when I was playing Rock Band over the holidays, I noticed that you could get a pair of fingerless gloves that looked like this pattern.

So, this mixed with the sweetness of my friend Tom sending me a skein of Alpaca Silk (Blue Sky Alpaca) lead to their creation.

I altered the cuffs a bit. But yeah. Fun pattern!

R.I.P Vampira (Maila Nurmi)

I was very saddened to hear the news that Vampira (Maila Nurmi) passed way on the Tenth of January this year. She was defiantly one of my favorite personalities of all time. Her name will forever be remembered in my house. I think in her honor I am going to set up a movie fest of movies she was in. For more information on Vampira and her death check out here. Feel free to share and spread the flyer I made just please host it on your own. It's just polite.

In other news I have been a busy busy little bee with school, a graduation from my old school, moving into a new apartment, visiting my boyfriend who lives six hundred and sixty-six miles from me for a month and catching up on all my knitting. For a mini sample here is a hat that I made for a friend of mine's niece. I call it Razz-berry. Let me know what you think as I would love opinions. I have finished one more for her nephew and am working on a third for her other niece. I'll post pictures of those soon.

Skull Fingerless Gloves

Hi everyone! I'm new here and I thought I'd put up a picture of the fingerless gloves that I knitted my oldest daughter for Christmas. I adapted about three different patterns and improvised the skulls and accent rows. This was my first experience using dpns so I was rather happy they came out as well as they did. I hope my daughter enjoys wearing these as much as I enjoyed making them for her.

I've knit this before for my dad, and I totally want to make myself one. The pattern was easy, it's a free pattern, and it's covered in skulls. What's not to love? I don't know.

I was also thinking that maybe be could just have a Skull-along? Like, gloves, hats, socks, whatever you want to knit, but they have skulls on them?

Long Time No Post

I thought you guys would appreciate this-even though there is a general lack of knittiness.
This is the Santa I made for my Dad. I wanted to knit the sweater, but as crunch time grew near, I knew there wouldn't be time. I ended up making the sweater from an old fair isle I felted. The face is polymer clay and everything else is fabric.

Biker Boy from Son of Stich n' Bitch

This pattern is available in Debbie Stoller's new book, Son of Stitch n' Bitch. I really like this and am planning on making it for my husband anyway.

The only two downsides I can see to this as a KAL pattern, is that:

1) It's a big item (as opposed to knucks)

2) You'd have to buy the book (or find it in a local library) to get the pattern. Right now, it's going for $10.85 on Amazon.com (which isn't too shabby considering retail is $15.95)

Skull Socks of Fury from Hello Yarn

I dig these. I'd do them in black and pink. You, of course, could do them in whatever color you want. This pattern is also FREE. Hooray for free!.

A New Year, a New KAL

So it seems we've gotten some pretty positive feedback about doing a KAL. Of course it would be optional and all PRK-ers would be free (and encouraged!) to continue posting non-KAL stuff on the blog. The KAL won't take over the blog....just be a fun side thing for those who choose to participate.

So let's open up nominations today and keep them open until January 17th. That gives 2 weeks to nominate and then I'll make a poll thing and we'll vote. We'll give that a week and then to give everyone a week or so to get yarn and supplies, we can start on February 1st. Sound like a plan?

So to nominate, just post a pic and link to the pattern plus any other info you think we'll want (like why you love it, if the pattern costs anything, etc etc). I'm excited to see what you guys come up with. :-)

Hello, all. As you can see from two posts down, out lovely Ms. Kaity has stepped down as mod. If you haven't yet, take a minute to thank Kaity for taking care of us since the PRK founder, Lana, handed the reigns over to her this summer.

Now, what you can't see from the two posts below (because it happened via e-mail) is that she left the blog in MY hands....muah - ha- ha. A little scary, eh?

As we're wrapping up 2007 and getting ready for 2008 (can you believe it's almost 2008?!?), I've been thinking about what I'd like to see happen this next year with our punk rock blogging community and wanted to see what ideas you guys have, too.

Hey Guys, It's me, Kaity. As you could tell, it's been a little bit quiet around here. I'm looking for someone who it willing to take over my position as Administrator. I've been super busy lately, and I haven't been able to keep up.

Punk Rockish ?

One of the women at our Charity Knitting group is being treated for cancer. She was also one of the people that knit on the Judy Scarf {the 140 foot long scarf}. So the Clowns and I knit her a chemo cap out of the left over judy yarn.

It is mostly a joke but it is made from Red Heart Mexican. It has been washed repeatedly with gold balls to soften it up.

Punk jumper?

Hello! I'm new, 16 and from Bristol in England (dunno where most people are from here)

I want a punk jumper, one of those big holey things that's barely held together and is waaaaay too large for any human being to fit in. If anyone watches The Mighty Boosh, I'm looking for one like the one Vince was wearing in the episode where he's a punk.

Allo everyone!

I recently came into possession of a nano, very exciting indeed! While I was at the store looking for accessories, I noticed that you could buy knit socks for i-pods.

This got me thinking.

So, with a little search or two through Ravelry, I found that someone had made an "endpaper mitts" patterned cozy for her i-pod. I quickly found some grey and hot pink left over wools, and made one of my own! The pink is a bit brighter than it shows up. I really should pull out my good camera sometime soon.

How can you dress up your water bottle?

With this: a water bottle carrier that looks like a bear! So cute!

The pattern is from Mr. Funky's Super Crochet Wonderful called On-the-go water bottle carrier. When I saw those googley eyes I couldn't resist. It was crocheted with 1 skein of Sugar N Cream and some white yarn from my stash on a size G hook. It was pretty easy and quick. It still needs buttons on back to enclose the bottle in, but its complete enough to show off. I should have bought eyes and a nose thats a bit bigger but I didn't realize that until I got everything home and was finishing it up. It still looks good though. I made it for my brother's girlfriend for Christmas and hope he doesn't spill the beans about it to her about it. Then I would have to keep it for myself, which wouldn't be bad. Hey, can't let a good creation go to waste, right?

hello lovelies!

my computer is giving me issues, so i can't really post pictures right now. however, i really want you all to be able to see what i worked on last weekend... my first-ever pattern!

it's called you snag! and it's for a pair of top-down punk glovelettes with dropped stitches. i've made two pairs already and i'm starting on a third... they're so comfy, and easy too. definitely a beginner level.

i just finished the RPM socks from knitty.com. I used all the methods I've never tried before, to make it more exciting (i.e. short-row heel, and the pointed toe). I ended up frogging the heel like, 7 times, but in the long run it was totally worth it.

i actually had enough yarn to make the a lil' longer but i was afraid of coming up short.

Time: alot, i started them the first time in May and frogged a lot of times.

Piggy Tail/ Dr SEuss Hat

I so hate bugging you all, but a while back i had printed out a pattern for a hat, it had holes for piggy tails but they were more on the top/side of the head and looked like smallish tube holes, like something from dr seuss or the sea. I have misplaced it and so had the perfect friend in mind to print it for....do any of you know which hat i am thinking of? I searched old posts here and have been surfing looking for it but.....sigh, this one was perfect. All i have found just have plain holes on the lower side. Thanks if you can help! (i had swore it was knitty but no luck!)
